We had already played the Keyhole Lounge many times, when we were offered a One Year Contract to play 6 nights a week at one location: the Omaha Holiday Inn. Our schedule was to play 3 one-hour shows each night with Linda and Patti going to the dressing room during their breaks for a dress change for each show. The ladies told us that they like to stay to see what we were going to wear next.
One night a customer came in with a gift for Jack, and requested Malaguena. The gift was a beautiful sombrero that the customer said was to be worn whenever he played that song. People were always doing nice things for us.
In the middle of each set, we would do what we called, “a novelty song: that would require audience participation on stage with us. One of these numbers was “Sarah.” Customers would bring their friends to see us and ask that we choose their friend to be challenged with the song. After the fun and laughter with the challenge, we would present them with a bumper sticker that said, “I Sang Sarah with the Jack Evans Trio.” You can imagine what fun it was to see someone’s car with that sticker on its bumper.
Another audience participation number was "Funny Funky Freddie and His 5 Piece Band."
